As our beneficiaries complete their studies and go on to build careers, families and their lives, we hope that, should they get into a situation where they could help someone else, they will try to do so.
This principle is what lies behind our choice of the word “Acorn” for our charity – it represents something that starts from small beginnings but grows into something substantial and enduring. Many of you may have seen the film “Pay It Forward” in which a young boy, given the task of finding an idea to make the world a better place, comes up with the notion of repaying good deeds, not with payback, but with new good deeds done to three new people. This creates a revolution in the lives of an ever-widening circle of people completely unknown to him.
That’s what we hope our beneficiaries will new able to do.
If you would like to apply for an Acorn award, please write to the Trustees at An Darach, Fossoway Stables, Fossoway, Perth & Kinross, KY13 0PB.
